Today we launch our finished soundscapes and accompanying films, collective works resulting from a series…
Bright and early last Saturday morning, our monthly archive researchers’ meeting took a rather different form when it hosted an online talk and Q&A session by Professor Clyde Binfield, Emeritus Professor in History from the University of Sheffield. The event was attended by project volunteers, St Mellitus parishioners and friends of the restoration project. A descendant of some of the soldiers commemorated by the organ also joined us!
Professor Binfield is the author of several books and innumerable articles, chiefly on on the history of Protestant nonconformity. He spoke at length about New Court during the First World War and explained the attitudes of Congregationalists to the War. He also revealed that at the end of nineteenth century the church had an internationally famous pastor in Doctor George Campbell Morgan. The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session.
An audio recording of the session is now available to listen to on our YouTube channel.
