The St Mellitus archive volunteers have been incredibly hard at work during the latest lockdown.…
With Christmas fast approaching we bring you the perfect gift for the music-lovers in your life AND an opportunity to help restore the memorial Hunter organ at St Mellitus all in the same festive package!
During the pandemic one of our wonderful volunteers, Myka Baum, established the N4 Cutting Hub in the Parish hall under the organ at St Mellitus. During the first wave, volunteers at the hub were making emergency scrubs for the NHS; they are now making masks.
Amongst the array of colourful designs on their website, Myka and her team have created a special edition “Pull out the stops” mask especially for us. Profits from the sale of these masks will go towards the parish’s contribution to the organ restoration and the broad activity plan that accompanies it. Activities include free piano lessons for local children, educational workshops, a training placement with the organ builders and online music events.
The masks are triple layered. The middle layer is made from polycotton, which has been recommended as a filter fabric by experts. They feature a nose wire and elastic loops that go behind the head and neck for extra comfort.
