Our wonderful organ at St Mellitus has more than 2,000 pipes, but how do the pipes make music? What do all those funny buttons, known as ‘stops’ do? And what are organists doing with their feet? If you’ve ever wondered how a pipe organ works, our new animation for young children has now launched, so you can find out.

This charming and informative animation was created by Izzy Argent, a recent graduate of UCA Farnham, with music and sound by multi-instrumentalist and composer, Matt Redman.

The project is Izzy’s first paid commission since graduating.  She says:

‘Working on this project has been an amazing experience. I started knowing nothing about pipe organs and now I know more than most! Learning about the instrument and St Mellitus’s role in the community has been truly fascinating and I’m grateful to have worked on an important project that means so much to so many people.’

The animation forms part of an education pack for schools which will launch in September 2021.
